Calcium Increases Longevity

Swedish researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm came to the conclusion that daily consumption of products rich in calcium may lengthen life. Research authors emphasize that the talk here is not about supplements, but about products rich with calcium. These conclusions were obtained during long term research and its results were published in American Journal of Epidemiology.

In the experiment participated 23000 men aged from 45 to 79. Major source of calcium in the diet of experiment participants were diary and cereal products. Those who took daily products with high amount of calcium, mortality risk from different diseases during following 10 years was 12% lower than in those whose diet contained less calcium. Also was noticed mortality risk reduction from cardio-vascular diseases by 23%. However, significant calcium action at mortality rate from cancer was not detected.

Obtained data proves the results of most earlier studies during which was established connection between calcium consumption and longevity increase not only in men but also in women. In the eyes of scientists, this helps to make conclusion that daily calcium consumption above the established mark (1000mg for men from 19 to 50 years, and 1200mg for men over 50) lowers mortality risk from any disease.

Dates Help In Saveing Youth

A recent research of Israel specialists showed that regular consuming of dates help to lower lipids in the blood which lowers risk of developing of cardiovascular diseases, especially, atherosclerosis.

It also helps to reduce pH level and slows the aging process. Scientists from Technion's Faculties of Medicine of Rambam have studied useful properties of dates. A group of volunteers during one month consumed daily 100g of Medjool – a sort of fleshy dates growing in Jordan Valley.

After that those voluntaries during one month have not taken any dates. Then the next month they consumed other sort of dates called Halawi, these dates have thick peer and grow in Jordan Valley. Generally, volunteers were asked to keep to usual diet.

During the research volunteers regularly made blood test and liver and kidney examinations. Obtained results showed that regular consuming of Medjool reduces by 8% level of harmful lipids in blood and consuming Halawi – by 15%. Besides, Halawi help to reduce by 33% level of blood oxidation accelerating the process of aging. Medjool did not show the same properties.

As it is known, dates contain a lot of glucose but none of volunteers tested had blood sugar increased. It was considered before that a lot of glucose may cause diabetes. Also there were no changes observed in BMI - body mass index.

The results of the research demand the explanation of working mechanism of dates which leads to lowering of blood lipids ”, said the lead researcher, professor Michael Aviram.
