The Importance of Sleep for Bodybuilders

If try to express the essence of muscle development in a few words then it is about weight training plus diet and rest. Bodybuilding is much more than that, but as in any field is good for the overall look to know this thing.

Many newbie looking to gain muscle are more concerned to know which supplement is better while overlook more important issues, as the problem of sleep.
People spends a third of life sleeping. Sleep has a fundamental importance for our health, both physically and mentally. If sleep is disrupted, individuals can not perform their work efficiently, it affects almost every aspect of life. For bodybuilders a good and restful sleep, respecting the number of hours required for restoration is one of the essential prerequisites to obtain the desired performance, expressed especially effective in muscle development.

Not many people know that muscles grow during rest and not during exercise. The consumed effort during training with weights is just a stimulus for increasing muscle, since hypertrophy occurs in the period when the muscle is no longer required, especially in sleep. Not sleeping, in some cases voluntary (for various entertainment or to learn), but in many cases caused by a failure of sleep hygiene will lead to changes in the body and all physiological functions will manifest both behavioral (irritability, depression, decreased ability to concentrate) and in terms of maintaining physical performance. A bodybuilder who does not sleep enough for a while will notice muscle growth stagnation, sometimes an involution, impaired motor capacities, coordination and strength. In other words, will find that training doesn’t go as before, tired more quickly, can not concentrate, can not load the bar or can not perform the proposed number of repetitions and breathing hard.
Sleep deprivation is cumulative and can have serious effects on health.
Real bodybuilders have a very ordered life program and a strong desire. Beginner bodybuilders should know some important things about sleep hygiene:

Although there are big differences between people (some 6-7 hours sleep and feel fully rested, while others need 10 hours), it is recommended a minimum of 8 hours per night and optionally another 1-2 hours during the day. Wake up at the same time every morning (even on weekends). Try to go to bed at the same time every evening. A regular sleep schedule will make it to be as effective.
Meantime a short sleep session during the day it’s not mandatory. If you do not feel the need to sleep over the day, than you have not to do it. For many bodybuilders is sufficient sleep at night.
It was found that exercises performed 3-4 hours before the bedtime spoils the sleep. So make sure you schedule your training in the right time. Also, it is known that regular exercise performed in the first part of the afternoon improve deep sleep.

Meal, eaten at night, affects the quality of sleep. Portion of protein taken at bedtime, in addition to provide protein needs during the night can be a habit to be part of "ritual" for bedtime, with a role in inducing sleep.

Guess you know the most important products that may disturb the sleep process. It’s about caffeine, tea and supplements that have neurostimulators properties. You should always try to avoid the intake of these products about 4-6 hours before bedtime, because they will disturb your sleep.

Cigarettes and other related products are stimulants; they should be avoided before bedtime and during night revivals. Instead alcohol speeds up the sleep coming.  Unfortunately, even in small quantities, it affects the last part of sleep.
The sleep place should be as comfortable as possible. Avoid extreme temperatures, light and noise. Noise is the most common problem that sometimes can not be controlled; negative impact on sleep can still be reduced by using a device to mask the noise.

Specialists recommend to all of us to create a ritual before the bedtime, for example, drink a glass of milk, or take the last portion of protein per day or to read a preferred book.
Sometimes problems can be worse than some transient insomnia and in these cases most appropriate solution is a consultation with the family doctor, who is only able to recommend the use of hypnotics. Their self-manage behavior some risks, especially if applied in unknowingly.

A reasonable rest time is the one the most important detail in building muscle.  Sleep well, stay healthy and gain muscle quickly!

The Duration of Sleep Affects the Level of Testosterone

If you want to improve body composition and hormonal regulation of take care of that, to get an adequate amount of sleep, and arrange to sleep.

Studies show that sleep duration and chronotype (a natural tendency to increase the level of energy in the mornings or evenings) significantly affect the level of testosterone levels and other related hormones in men. This in turn affects the metabolism of insulin, and body composition. Similar results, except for a slightly different hormonal response were detected in women.

A recent study found that men whose sleep up to their chronotype had higher testosterone levels than those whose sleep was not consistent with the natural inclinations. Subjects who were forced to go against their chronotype (for example, "owl" who had to get up early), showed a low level of testosterone. Therefore, you should listen to your chronotype and go to bed when you really want to. Also, try to avoid sudden changes in sleep for a week.

The duration of sleep affects the level of testosterone

Another study shows that a short or unnatural sleep affects all hormonal cascade that is why sleep is extremely important for body composition. Scientists have analyzed the effects of its restrictions on young healthy men. For five consecutive nights, subjects were allowed to sleep only four hours.

The results showed that only a few days of sleep managed slightly lower testosterone levels and significantly increase the average cortisol level throughout the day. The average cortisol level was higher by 15.5 per cent, and the associated adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which also is a stress hormone, increased by 3.2 percent.

Moreover, due to deprivation of sleep disturbance was noted in the subjects blood glucose response after consuming breakfast and insulin level was higher by nearly 30 percent.

In addition, there were found some strange moments - was an increase in the level of leptin, a hormone that reduces the feeling of hunger, and low levels of triglycerides - in the long term, these effects are positive for the overall health. However, due to the fact that sleep deprivation causes complete dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary hormone that regulates levels, energy and hunger is likely more prolonged exposure to these biomarkers would have a detrimental effect.

It is also quite possible that the positive performance levels of leptin and triglyceride levels were the result of the fact that at the time of the study participants were allowed to consume food only under the regime and the only one that was issued. Other studies of sleep deprivation, during which the subjects were allowed to eat whatever they wanted, it was found that in the exhausted condition people often choose high fat foods with a high sugar content and thus consume about 300 calories more than usual.

So, if you want to improve your sleep and maintain good body composition, determine their chronotype and try to stick with it. Go to bed at the same time every night, and try not to change the sleep for a week, if possible.

Stay Healthy In Your 40s

Have enough sleep.
Is there anyone who dislikes after a long fatiguing day watching TV or reading abed? It stands to reason that fatigue from work and home problems people relieve by lying on the bed. In case you really want to energize your body it is better for you to sleep.

Sleep is a restorative process necessary for a normal immunity functioning. From half to an hour of extra sleep is enough to make your immunity system much stronger. The main thing is that you should not fight with yourself when you feel you want to sleep. This is the way body says you that it needs reloading.

Learn to relax.
40 – 45 years of life are most stressful. Problems on the job, conflicts with grown up children, psychological borders of middle-aged – all these things superimpose on one another and as a result you feel permanent psychic tension. Stress washes you out not only morally but also physically making immune system work erratically, and as a result your body reacts slowly on viruses and bacteria. You should contribute time to relax, at least 15 – 20 minutes every three hours.

For example, at work you can catch a break and drink a cup of coffee, or you may go out on fresh air, or just lean backwards and close your eyes. Many companies long ago have understood benefits of this and so they made special relaxing rooms employees. These are small dark rooms with comfortable chairs where employees may relax and even have a nap.

However, remember, if you have a free moment from work and you switch your attention on an internet site or other computer entertainments – you just fool yourself. Your brain works on with the same intensity and maybe more harder when you check your mail, talk on the Internet chats or just check your cell phone. Psychologists claim that plenty of equipment and means of communication have a great impact on the mind and all these things do overload us with information which causes chronic stress.
