Arthritis Treatment With Steroids

Main target of rheumatoid arthritis treatment is to stop inflammatory process because with time inflammation becomes a permanent disturbing factor and source of pain and discomfort.

Corticosteroids (also called steroids) are second major group of drugs which are used against inflammations in people with rheumatoid arthritis/ This group of drugs prevents body from production of substances (called prostaglandins) that may cause inflammations.

Corticosteroids perform one more function in rheumatoid arthritis. There is evidence that rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. It means that immune system mistakenly acts on healthy tissue instead of fighting bacteria and viruses.

Corticosteroids reduce autoimmune activity, thus eliminating its potential harm. Steroids make blood leukocytes work less effectively. Unfortunately it means that in the meantime in different people by different degree lowers immune system ability to resist infections.

Corticosteroids are not only drugs but also hormones that are produced from cortisone. Cortisone is produced in atrabiliary capsules and it has an effect on many vital functions in the body. Cortisone regulates fluid-and-electrolyte balance and metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

Stress makes atrabiliary capsules produce additional amounts of cortisone which helps the body fight stress. However, you should know that corticosteroids and anabolic steroids are two different things. In arthritis treatment anabolic steroids are not used.

What Diseases Do Treat Steroids?

Steroids (corticosteroids) are synthetic drugs with properties similar to cortisol (hormone that is produced in human body). Steroids reduce inflammation and inhibit hyperactivity of immune system. Steroids are used to treat different diseases which are followed by inflammatory processes. Corticosteroids do differ from anabolic steroids which are used by athletes to build muscles. Corticosteroids include cortisol, prednisone and methylprednisolone.

How steroids are used?
Steroids may be taken by mouth (oral steroids) or may be injected (injectable steroids). Injections may be made intravenously, intramuscularly, directly in affected joint or synovial bursa (obtundent surface between particular chordas and bones), and chordas area and other limp juxta-articular tissues.

How do steroids work?

Steroids eliminate inflammatory process and reduce activity of immune system।Inflammation is a process during which leucocytes and other enzymes do activate body defense against infections and foreign substances such as viruses and bacteria However, some diseases break immune system work which leads to development of its hyperactivity. Inflammation comprises articular tissues and destroys them. Inflammation is followed by redding of affected area, turgidity and pain. Steroids reduce production of inflammatory ferments preventing from further tissue erosions. Also steroids reduce the activity of immune system by inhibiting leucocytes function.

What diseases do treat steroids?
Steroids are used to treat conditions characterized with break of body defense system work which destroys articular tissues. Steroids are used in particular conditions which are followed by inflammations, such as systemic angiitis (inflammation of blood vessels) and myositis (inflammation of muscles). Also steroids may be used to treat such inflammatory diseases as arthritis, lupus, uratosis.

Theories on the Causes of Aging

There exists several theories explaining the process of aging. Each specific case has its specific factor or sometimes their combination.

1) Programmed aging (theory of circadian rhythm). Aging of cells is programmed on genetic level. The number of possible cell splittings are put by the nature once and forever. When cells begin to die faster than to restore themselves, body organs cannot perform all their essential functions anymore.

2) Genetic theory. Cells contain a substance that destroys them at chromosomal level.

3) Structural theory. With age occurs aggravation of condition of connective tissue - it loses its firmness and elasticity which leads to irreversible changes.

4) Theory of free radicals is most popular theory today. The theory suggests that chemical reactions in cells lead to formation of free radicals which cause damage and death of cells. With time the number of dead and non-functional cells increases which breaks work of the whole body.

5) Immunologic theory. With age immune system weakens. Body becomes more vulnerable to infectious diseases and disorders which finally leads to death. Weakening of immune system leads to triggering of autoimmune responses – body detects its own cells as foreign ones and destroys them.

Stay Healthy In Your 50s

Antioxidants

At this age our common health becomes weaker and with this the risks of various diseases (from skin diseases to cardio-vascular ones) are increased. To enhance your natural immunity, scientists from California University recommend to include in your regimen products with antioxidants as much as possible.

According to an American research, perfect products for immunity are cocozelle, broccoli, green head cabbage which contain anticancer components. Also many berries, fruits, coffee, green tea are rich with antioxidants

Find your goal

According to a research of University of Carolina (Los Angeles), people who have far-reaching plans on their life live longer than those who think just about today. Moreover, experiments showed that when a person dreams about major purchase or travel and waits for a long time the accomplishment of his desires, his immunity works much better than usually.

However, scientists cannot say exactly how these things are connected but they suppose that existence of a distant dream and striving for it help a person fight stress. So go ahead with your dreams and your chances to live a longer life will surely grow!

Do not forget about... love!

Many mistakenly think that after 50 there is no sex anymore. But scientists claim that, vise versa, your children are adult, your career is OK, so you have enough time for your personal life. You should know that sexual intercourse once or twice a week increases by 30% production of specific anti-bodies protecting us from various catarrhal viruses.

Stay Healthy In Your 40s

Have enough sleep.
Is there anyone who dislikes after a long fatiguing day watching TV or reading abed? It stands to reason that fatigue from work and home problems people relieve by lying on the bed. In case you really want to energize your body it is better for you to sleep.

Sleep is a restorative process necessary for a normal immunity functioning. From half to an hour of extra sleep is enough to make your immunity system much stronger. The main thing is that you should not fight with yourself when you feel you want to sleep. This is the way body says you that it needs reloading.

Learn to relax.
40 – 45 years of life are most stressful. Problems on the job, conflicts with grown up children, psychological borders of middle-aged – all these things superimpose on one another and as a result you feel permanent psychic tension. Stress washes you out not only morally but also physically making immune system work erratically, and as a result your body reacts slowly on viruses and bacteria. You should contribute time to relax, at least 15 – 20 minutes every three hours.

For example, at work you can catch a break and drink a cup of coffee, or you may go out on fresh air, or just lean backwards and close your eyes. Many companies long ago have understood benefits of this and so they made special relaxing rooms employees. These are small dark rooms with comfortable chairs where employees may relax and even have a nap.

However, remember, if you have a free moment from work and you switch your attention on an internet site or other computer entertainments – you just fool yourself. Your brain works on with the same intensity and maybe more harder when you check your mail, talk on the Internet chats or just check your cell phone. Psychologists claim that plenty of equipment and means of communication have a great impact on the mind and all these things do overload us with information which causes chronic stress.

Stay Healthy In Your 30s

Less sugar and alcohol

It is considered that life begins after 30s. Partially, it is true. Usually reaching 30 men achieve wishful carrier results, start a family, buy own house, car, etc. In order to get all that, men often are as busy as a bee. As a result instead of home prepared dinners and suppers they have coffee in plastic cups, pops, fried pies, hamburgers, chocolate – generally speaking, many sugar and fats.

Meanwhile, doctors from Michigan Institute Medical Center claim that jump of glucose level in blood may lower work of immune system for 3 hours. It would be enough to drink one bottle of pop to lower immune system work by 30%, some of immune cells lose their ability to seek and destroy infections in the body.

Another killer of immunity is alcohol. Men over 30 are at risk for weekend alcoholism: after hard working 5 days week man goes to the restaurant, or buys in the market a bottle with wine,, or just drinks beer with his friends – and this becomes a habit. Each dose of alcohol reduces the body's ability to produce cells that fight infections.

In order to reduce negative effects of alcohol and sweets, specialists recommend not just to reduce their consumption. You should eat more products rich with fiber (cereal bread, pasta, porridge, vegetables), which are the source of useful bacteria for bowel. Maintaining right bacterial balance prevents from absorbing various infections via digestive system.

Regular exercises

Power load and exhaustible aerobic trainings probably will help you lose weight but immunity will be lowered. Doctors from New York's Lenox Hill Hospital say that you should strengthen your immunity with moderate regular exercises.

Regular exercises literally do disperse immune cells making them run via blood faster which reduces chances of bacteria and viruses to escape detection. The ideal formula of healthy workout is following: 20 minutes of easy running plus 15 – 30 minutes of power training three times a week.
